This will be the darkest red litter of the season! These beautiful dark red puppies are due around Christmas time and going home around the middle of February.
One of our priorities at Windy Knoll Goldens is to provide puppies that will be excellent, healthy, friendly companions, and pets for life. The foundation to achieving our goal is making sure the parents exhibit those qualities. As caring golden retriever breeders, we test our dogs for common golden retriever genetic points including DM, GRPRA1, GRPRA2, MD etc. and have them certified with the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) or PennHip to ensure our breeding dogs and their puppies are not prone to genetic weaknesses. X-Ray tests and screens are performed when the dogs reach an appropriate age – usually 2 years old (OFA) and usually around 1 year old (PennHIP). As responsible golden retriever breeders we always research our pedigree for optimal breeding lines.

Brad, our darkest red golden retriever is a real winner when it comes to personality, retreiving capabilities, and looks. He was bred as a field golden to hunt, but he also loves to chill out in between times. Ellamae is a lovely dark red sleek coated female. This is a first time for both Violet & Brad. Both goldens have lovely personalities including being gentle, conscientious, calm goldens with relatively low drive. They are very good with children including toddlers, and with all other dogs. In fact, below you will see videos of Brad rolling around with puppies which makes him the greatest nanny we have. Often, he will carefully and gently climb into a pen with 3-5 week old puppies and lay down and let them crawl all over him. Violet has a lovely light blond creamy colored coat, while Brad boasts the darkest red coat out of all our goldens! Both love the water and love to retrieve. These puppies will go home on December 14th! We have one male available. The next litters will go home March of next year.
Clover, one of our darkest red goldens and Charlie, our handsome show quality golden will produce amazingly cute and smart goldens. Charlie always passes along his good looks and gentlemanly personality while Clover’s smooth, silky coat and friendly, outgoing personality makes for one of our most desirable litters of puppies. Over the years, some of these puppies have gone on to be therapy dogs because of their perfect personalities. We have one trained female available.

Daisy and George have the most “colorful” golden retrievers with cute little splashes of white. See if you can spot them! The are the smartest puppies on the block, learning things much quicker than all the other litters that we have. After one time through the doggie door, most of them figured out how to get right back in. They not only learn well, but they are also very outgoing and friendly.
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all. Spring time is here and our puppies are enjoying the lovely, warm mid-Maine countryside.
Lady and Charlie had their first litter with 11 puppies on March 10! Lady cares for her puppies like a pro and they are growing fat and happy very quickly. Our puppies all go through something called Bio-sensor therapy developed by the US military to promote neurological, physiological, and physical wellbeing. Besides this, they have playtime with us each day as well as with each other.
Patsy and George’s litter arrived on the first day of 2023. Talk about starting the year off right. What could you want more than 8 beautiful dark red puppies with 1 female and 7 males? George and Ellamae produce our darkest red golden retriever puppies because both parents are dark red. Both parents have been tested for many genetic weaknesses and matched based on the results. Both go through further hip testing with PennHIP which is a superior, scientific based hip test. Of course the parents’ personalities play just as much a part of our selection process. Both are friendly, confident, playful, and loving. George’s energy is a little higher than Ellamae’s who is a bit quieter and more “mature”. With that, both produce easy to train, family friendly puppies
The New Year is Here! But so is Liberty and Freddy’s new litter of adorable American Golden Retriever puppies! Liberty is doing a good job learning to be a mother! With Freddy as the father, these puppies will grow up to be outstanding dogs. Daisy is a very caring, doting mother who keeps her puppies clean and well fed.
We just wanted to give you the exciting news that the next litter of puppies (from Goldie and King George) is here! Goldie was a great mother who had me guessing for a couple of days as she seemed to go into labor a few days before she ended up having them. But she did so well that I didn’t have to do much at all to help her! She gave birth to 5 beautiful females and 4 handsome males! You will notice that some of the puppies favor Goldie who is a dark blond and the others favor King George who is dark red.
To be entirely accurate we wanted two different colors from this litter, so we bred Lady with Charlie and also Freddy! We have done this occasionally which, in this case, produces puppies that are very much different in color depending on the father. Lady is doing very well feeding and caring for her 5 puppies. She is an energetic, yet loving mother. Charlie is the gentleman of the place being the most caring and thoughtful male we have. Freddy, who is the father of 3 of the puppies, is a happy-go-lucky golden who has never seen a stranger.
Happy 4th! Florence’s puppies have a uniquely adorable look that seems to come with the English Cream and American golden puppies. All these puppies are going to their new homes in the next couple of weeks!
