Few dogs have earned their reputation quite like the Golden Retriever. Gentle, joyful, and eager to please, this is the breed so many families picture when they imagine the perfect dog: patient with children, devoted to its people, and happy to be wherever you are.
Goldens are as capable as they are kind. Bred to work closely alongside people, they are intelligent, highly trainable, and genuinely happiest with a job to do, whether that is retrieving in the field, learning a new trick, or simply being your shadow around the house. Give one daily exercise and plenty of companionship, and a Golden will reward you with a lifetime of loyalty.

A Look at the Breed’s History
The Golden Retriever was developed in the Scottish Highlands in the 1860s by Dudley Marjoribanks, the first Lord Tweedmouth, who set out to create the ideal gundog: patient, intelligent, and gentle enough to retrieve waterfowl from land and cold water all day. Officially recognized by the UK Kennel Club in 1911 and the American Kennel Club in 1925, the breed quickly became one of the most popular dogs in North America, a place it has held ever since. The very traits that made Goldens brilliant in the field, their soft mouth, steady temperament, and eagerness to please, are exactly what make them such treasured family companions, guide dogs, and therapy dogs today.
