Goldie’s eleven puppies all have beautiful healthy coats. While naturally soft and silky, golden retriever’s coats benefit from conscientious care. Optimal nutrition and balanced diets play a primary role in maintaining a vibrant coat. However, fleas, mites, and other miniscule pests can cause cause significant external discomfort and lead to serious skin problems. Despite a plethora of preventative products for these conditions, many are not effective or safe.
Windy Knoll Goldens has limited flea and other insect issues by using several natural supplements. Bug Off Garlic, sprinkled on our dog’s food, has proven to be remarkably successful at repelling fleas and ticks. When completing puppy wellness checks for our litters, the veterinarian is always amazed at the absence of fleas and mites. If we do observe one of these tiny enemies, we will apply Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth to the dogs’ coats. This will curtail an unwanted infestation.
It is not uncommon for puppies and adult dogs to experience skin itching, irritations and infections. When we discern this on one of our dogs, we immediately apply Neem Oil to the irritated/raw skin spot. While somewhat sticky/messy, this salve soothes and heals.
