Puppy training looks a little different for every pup, and then there’s Daisy Mae……This vivacious little dark red golden retriever has been stealing hearts here at Windy Knoll Goldens, and she’s been putting in the work to match that irresistible charm. Daisy Mae is spending an extra week or two with us to complete her puppy training, and she is absolutely thriving!

From the moment you meet her, you know she’s something special. Spirited, playful, and full of golden retriever joy — she’s exactly the kind of puppy that makes this puppy training work so rewarding.

The weeks right after birth are a critical window in a puppy’s development. Golden retrievers are smart, eager to please, and highly social, but without early puppy training, even the best temperament can develop into bad habits. Structured puppy training during these early weeks builds the foundation for a well-adjusted, confident dog for life. At Windy Knoll Goldens, we believe the best gift we can give a puppy — and their new family, is a head start. That’s why we offer an optional extended stay for families who want their pup to arrive home already familiar with the basics.

What Our Puppy Training Package Covers
Our puppy training program focuses on the foundational skills every golden retriever needs. Here’s what Daisy Mae has been working on:
Sit — One of the first puppy training milestones. A reliable sit is the building block for nearly every other behavior and helps a puppy learn impulse control.
Stay — Learning to hold position teaches patience and self-regulation — two things that go a long way in a busy household.
Come — A solid recall is one of the most important safety skills a dog can have. We work on making “come” a positive, rewarding experience every single time.
Leash Walking — Puppies need to learn that walks are calm, structured outings — not a chance to pull, zigzag, or leap at every leaf. Daisy Mae has been doing beautifully on the lead.
Crate Training — A crate-trained puppy is a more settled, secure puppy. We introduce the crate as a safe and comfortable space, which makes the transition to a new home much smoother.
Basic Manners — No jumping, no nipping, waiting politely — the everyday behaviors that make living with a dog a genuine pleasure.
