Emerald’s newborn golden retriever puppies arrived on September 1, and we are later than we meant to be in telling you about them! Emerald whelped on a warm end of summer afternoon, needed a little support from us partway through, and by evening she had her whole crew tucked in against her and looked very pleased with herself, and is doing an amazing job as a mom!
This litter is from Emerald and Bradford, two of our favorite dark red Goldens! You can meet both of them over on our dogs page.
The names in this group came straight out of the storybooks. There is a Bambi and a Faline, a Cinderella and a Snow White, a Wendy, and yes, a Dopey! Emerald has been a wonderful mother from the very first night, and they arrived fat, chunky and healthy, with lovely dark red coats. Every one of them is already spoken for, which tells you something about how long families have been waiting on this pairing. Their first days here were also the window for early neurological stimulation, which we run on days three through sixteen. It is only a few seconds per puppy per day of gentle handling, and we believe it shows up later in how steady these dogs are about the world around them.
We meant to introduce these newborn golden retriever puppies to you the week they were born, and then the farm had other ideas, so consider this the belated announcement they deserve! By the time you are reading this they are well past these pictures, up on their feet and making a racket, which is exactly why we wanted their first days written down before they were gone. They will be ready to go home on October 27. That feels like a long way off from here, and somehow it never actually is.
