Emerald and Brad’s golden retriever puppies at 5 weeks are the darkest red puppies we’ve ever had, and this week they got to go outside for the first time! They’re still nursing on Emerald and have started trying some solid food. Below you’ll find new pictures of the puppies and a quick look at what’s going on in a puppy’s life at this age.

What’s Happening At 5 Weeks Old?
They’re exploring. Puppies this age are curious about everything and not easily scared, so it’s a great time for them to see and hear new things. This is the start of their socialization period, the weeks when new experiences shape how comfortable a dog will be later in life. That’s why their first trip outside is such a big deal. They are in the weaning process. weaning is the switch from mom’s milk to solid food. Most puppies start trying food somewhere between 3 and 5 weeks and keep nursing for a couple more weeks while they get used to it. That’s right where this litter is.
