Jenny’s Positive Pregnancy Confirmation!

Do you think that Jenny is happy?

Jenny is happy - she has AKC golden retriever puppies on the way!

There is a good reason….

AKC Windy Knoll Jenny's puppies are due in May 2016

And a trip to our vet today enabled us to pass along the great news:

AKC Windy Knoll Jenny's pregnancy check was positive

Our AKC Windy Knoll Jenny’s anticipated pregnancy was confirmed by our vet, Dr. Polinger! Jenny has puppies on the way for sure, and it won’t be long before their arrival! May 9th, the due date for these new little AKC Golden Retrievers, is only a matter of weeks away!

Our beautiful light AKC Windy Knoll Jenny has a soft, thick, luxurious coat

Jenny is doing well, and we’re looking forward to the arrival of her and Brodie’s  pups.

AKC Windy Knoll Jenny's golden retriever puppies are due to arrive in early May 2016

We’ve also been busy with a new project for the dogs involving dirt, steel, noise, hydraulics, stones, and metal: stay tuned for a post on that coming up soon!

Jenny’s AKC Puppies Coming May 2016!

I love this time of year, when here and there we catch a glimpse of Spring after the long winter season. Today, for instance, sunshine and temperatures in the fifties all spoke “spring” and pulled our entire family outdoors for a long, lovely walk. While I hear that this delightful weather is quickly heading out the door to give way to more cold, rain, and maybe even snow, I still know Spring is just around the corner, along with all the new life that is a part of that season!

Part of that new life here at Windy Knoll Farm includes a new litter of puppies! We are so excited to announce that AKC Windy Knoll Jenny has been bred as of last week! Her new little puppies are due to arrive around May 9th!

Jenny has been doing great and looks fantastic – at least when she is not covered in dirt from romping through that spring mud! However, we did experience an unexpected turn of events in her breeding plans. Our male, Green Mountain Pastures Shep, was suppose to be the sire of this litter. However, as Jenny’s standing heat progressed, and the breeding was not a success between the two of the, we had to turn to plan “B.” Jenny took a trip over to Don Grave’s beautiful kennel, Super Goldens, over in New York, to visit one of his outstanding stud males. AKC Golden Retriever Super Golden Maxson Broderick, otherwise know as “Brodie,” and our Jenny got along splendidly, and Jenny came home several days later after her successful breeding.

AKC Sire of AKC Windy Knoll Jenny's 2016 Litter

We’re quite excited about the upcoming progeny from Jenny and Brodie! We are, however, aware that many of you on our wait list for Jenny’s planned litter were anticipating our Shep as the sire, and a few of you were hoping for the dark red coloring of Shep. Of course, with Brodie as the father of Jenny’s puppies, it is unlikely that any of them will be as dark red in color as Shep. (Jenny does have some dark red in her lines, so the possibility of a darker golden puppy is there, but not highly likely.) We apologize for this unexpected change, and would be interested in hearing from you if you’d like to cancel your spot on Jenny’s waiting list. If so, we do have some availability on our waiting list for our Betsy and Shep’s planned dark red litter later this year, especially for females, and could discuss the possibility of transferring you to her waiting list. Let us know what your thoughts are and we’ll do our best to continue to work with you!

In the meantime, you can look forward to an update in several weeks when we do a pregnancy check for Jenny at 25 days into her gestation!

Our New AKC Golden Retriever Sire – Stonewall Jackson

AKC Stonewall Jackson

Windy Knoll Stonewall Jackson

We are delighted to introduce the newest member of Windy Knoll Farm.

“Stonewall Jackson” has been a long awaited arrival here.

After nearly a year of searching for a new male to add to our Windy Knoll Goldens, we brought “Jack” home. As our up and coming new AKC Golden Retriever sire, we couldn’t be more pleased with him!

Our handsome new AKC Golden Retriever Male Puppy

Jack’s such a handsome boy.

Jack is a  four and a half months old, and has made himself delightfully at home here since his arrival in July. Promising to be a large, dark, handsome guy, he has thrilled us with his outstanding personality – both traits quite important for the future sire of our Windy Knoll puppies. Jack makes himself at home inside and out with such a calm, happy, friendly personality – magnifying the quintessential traits of the Golden breed. You can’t just leave any puppy to make himself at home in the living room with four small children, one a baby, or romping on the front lawn,  – but Jack fits right in and I have no worries over him!

We quite excited over “Stonewall Jackson” and are looking forward to his future puppies!

An Update on Windy Knoll Polly

More than one of you folks have inquired concerning the status of our Windy Knoll Polly. How is she doing? Is she bred yet? Any more specific time frame?

Windy Knoll Polly from Windy Knoll Farm

Well, the answer to the first questions is: Polly is enjoying life everyday here on Windy Knoll Farm, lazing in the shade or sun depending on the temperatures at the particular time, romping with our new puppy, Jack, chasing tenis balls, and sometimes joining in a stroll down the rode.

Spending time with Golden Retrievers is a treat

The answer to the second question is: No, Windy Knoll Polly is not yet bred, which leads to the answer of the fourth question: the time frame for puppies is still variable, and of course will be until Polly is bred.

A Busy Day at Windy Knoll Farm

Our Golden Retriever puppy wants to play with us

HELLO!

It’s been a busy day here for us Golden Retriever Puppies at Windy Knoll Farm! Well, perhaps we’ve been busy watching the goings on more than anything else, but we’ve even gotten to be a part of a few of the happenings…

Administering Wormer to a Golden Retriever Puppy

We had wormer administered to us. Mary Grace did a good job helping Mama and we behaved very well to help out with the process.

Our AKC Golden Retriever puppies are all worn out after a morning at play in the New England countryside

It was a lot of work, and upon completion, we were all ready for a good nap! One of us was so tired, he conked out on his back!

Our children are involved with the care of our Goldens

While we napped, Mary and Esther were busy scrubbing dog buckets and dishes. They like the suds and water necessary for the job!

Clean quarters for puppies is very important

Jonathan worked hard cleaning out our indoor pens.

Working hard to take care of our golden retreivers

He even finished his side before Mama finished hers, completing the job all by himself! Great job, Jonathan!

A new dog house for our New England raised Golden Retrievers

Our new, deluxe dog houses have been in progress for a long time, and today marked the exciting milestone of actually setting them up! Greg and my father in law worked as a team to install them.

new home for our cute puppies

All set up and ready to go!

Our sweet AKC Golden Betsy relaxes as we work

Betsy relaxed on the cool garage floor, content to observe the activity around her throughout the day. We were happy to relax much later in the day, content with the results of our day’s labor. Life on Windy Knoll Farm is always busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

AKC Golden Retrievers

Children and Golden Retrievers – Perfect Companions

Jonathan is four and a half years old, and enjoyed learning how to walk Jenny with confidence and authority recently.

One of the well know and loved traits of Golden Retrievers is their amicable, friendly, and trustworthy nature that suit them so well to the family. In fact, these very traits are some of the primary reasons Golden Retrievers rank as our dog breed of choice! Having four young children, it is quite important to us that any dog who is part of our family possess these qualities in abundance – and our goldens have never failed us! Not only are Goldens great with children, they are also intelligent animals who are quick to catch on to training.

Jenny began to take liberties once she realized that Jonathan was on the other end of the leash.

Jenny began to take liberties once she realized that Jonathan was on the other end of the leash.

On a recent outing, Jonathan requested to walk Jenny. Before long, Jenny realized that a little person was on the other end of the leash, and thought it was a good opportunity to test the advisability of wandering away from Jonathan’s side.

A great deal of concentration is necessary when entrusted with the responsibility of training Jenny!

It was the perfect opportunity to show Jonathan how to manage Jenny, teaching her to respect him as the authority, and the one to follow. Jonathan did great as Greg guided him through teaching Jenny. In just a short time, both were strolling down the road as a confident pair; Jonathan proudly holding onto the leash as Jenny trotted contentedly at his side.

A happy pair.

A happy pair.

So in case you are wondering: YES, children and Golden Retrievers are a wonderful combination!

A Golden Retriever’s Trip to Wrights Mountain Goldens

Shep 500px

Shep in the prime of his youth!

Shep is pretty pleased with his quiet, pleasant life as the senior member of the Windy Knoll Goldens crew. This week, however, his predictable routine has changed with a trip to Wrights Mountain Goldens! Our AKC Green Mountain Pastures Shep, who has sired an impressive number of wonderful golden retriever progeny, continues to leave behind him a golden legacy: he is busy breeding several of Wright’s Mountain Golden females this week! We are particularly excited, because one of the offspring of these breedings will be chosen to carry on in Shep’s stead when we retire Shep. That’s right, we will be choosing a male puppy from one of these litters to raise as our new stud! We will be choosing a female as well, as we strive to keep good lines in our future breeding plans for Windy Knoll Golden Retrievers. We are looking forward to this new phase; and look forward to staying in the puppy stage for some time now as we add these two new Golden Retrievers into our lives later this summer!

Esther helps prepare some AKC papers for AKC stud, Green Mountain Pastures Shep

Saturday morning found us preparing for Shep’s departure. Esther assisted me with some AKC paperwork I sent along with Shep.

Care of AKC Green Mountain Pastures Shep is important

Next, we made sure Shep was well-groomed and as handsome as could be. Shep carries a certain regal air about him, even in such a mundane event as getting his toenails trimmed! And while his age begins to manifest itself in a generous sprinkling of white about his head and paws, Shep still has a youthful spring in his step, and often joins in the energetic games of chase that our younger Golden Retrievers engage in. A trip to the vet with testing confirmed Shep’s continued health and vitality as a stud.

Our AKC Golden Retriever Shep loves children

The children played with and petted Shep for a while before saying goodbye to him.

Everyone loves Shep’s gentle, kindly nature – and Shep loves everyone in return!

AKC Green Mountain Pastures Shep enjoys our children's play

Early afternoon found us loading Shep into the car for his trek to Wright’s Mountain Goldens. He’s having a busy week there. We’re looking forward to having him home again – and we’re also looking forward to the new Golden Retrievers that he’ll be bringing into our lives!
