Poppy’s Extraordinary Six Weeks Of Puppy Training!

Poppy is on our 6 week puppy training program, and she’s having a wonderful time! She’s one of Violet and George’s puppies, and when her littermates went home on September 16, Poppy stayed right here on the farm with our trainers. She heads home to her family on October 30, but in the meantime we are enjoying having this sweet girl around for a bit longer!

What Happens In A 6 Week Puppy Training Program

Each week has one main goal. The first four weeks are the same as Titus’s four week program: sit and come, then down, then walking on a leash, then waiting at the door and greeting people without jumping. Week five adds stay, and week six brings it all together with a review of everything she’s learned. Along the way she gets a little practice every day with her crate, her potty schedule, meeting new people, and being gently handled.

The extra two weeks give her more time to practice it all, so it’s nice and solid by the time she goes home. Training doesn’t stop when they leave us, we start building a firm foundation of basic obedience and manners, however puppies don’t become trained overnight, it is a process that requires much patience and practice each day!

The American Kennel Club’s golden retriever breed profile describes the friendly, eager to please temperament these basics build on. If a 6 week puppy training program sounds perfect for a puppy of your own, our reserve a puppy page is the place to start, and you can see who’s growing up now on our current litters page. Keep up the great work, Poppy!
