The Conclusion of the Story

Molly’s owner recently emailed me to let me know how it had gone finding a home for Molly. Her story almost had me in tears…..

“This is a dog story; or so I thought. When Molly picked a fight with my dad’s female lab I made a decision that we all have to make sometime- a drastic change…

Putting my tears aside, I focused on how to go about finding her a good home. I contacted her breeder who was wonderfully supportive, and she wrote up a short blurb on her website.
That’s when things literally exploded.
Emails started pouring in, phone rang continually- I started putting in 16 hour days combing thru emails and talking to people on the phone, all moved by our story. But by the same token, I was taken in by their stories…
I had hundreds of people send me pictures of their beloved golden, lost too soon to cancer, wanting to fill their sadness by offering a home to our Molly. There was a girl who had been in our shoes, who had to surrender up her dog as a teen, and now wanted to give back and return the favor and give a dog in similar circumstances a home. People who had very special members in their household, an elderly parent, a Down’s syndrome sister, handicapped child; some who’s pain was very fresh, a widower and his son- all offering their heart to give love.
We had professors, a doctor, millionaires, college students, families, a vet, a state representative, former K9 handler for bomb detection,  trainers,  people who lived in cities, near cranberry bogs, the White Mountains, Mt Desert Island- as far away as California and even Thailand- people from all walks of life asking about Molly.
As I narrowed my list of potential homes, one more offer came in- a man in Maine offering to give Molly a home and also willing to give her back to me if my circumstances changed- it was kindness like that that made this whole journey worth while…
Molly found a new home in CT- they live on a dead end road backed up to 300 acres of woods- a wonderful couple, one a nurse the other an EMT. As I write this they are addressing her needs with a trainer and have committed themselves to being her last forever home.
It all started with a story, our story, but for me it became everyone’s story- those who reached out in compassion, understanding and kindness, that love that animal lovers everywhere understand. I believe our Heavenly Father created dogs as a reminder of His love; unconditional, always loving even when we are not at our best…
Yes, Molly has a forever home; and with My Jesus, so do I…”
